Letter 25: Assigned for Your Elevation

Have you ever felt like people forgot you—but somehow God didn’t?

Joseph knew that feeling well.

Before we meet him in the prison with the butler, Joseph had already lived through multiple sudden transitions. One moment he was the favored son, the next he was thrown into a pit by his own brothers. From the pit, he was sold into slavery and ended up in Potiphar’s house, where he served faithfully until he was falsely accused and placed in prison.

And yet, through every transition, one thing remained the same: God was with him.

Joseph’s Gift Shows Up in Every Season

Even in prison, Joseph didn’t lose the gift God placed inside him. Scripture says God gave Joseph the ability to interpret dreams. And that gift worked in every season—whether in a house, a pit, or a prison.

This is where Joseph meets someone God appointed for his elevation: Pharaoh’s chief butler.

The butler had offended Pharaoh and was thrown into the same prison where Joseph was serving. One night he had a troubling dream. In the dream, the butler saw a vine with three branches. The branches budded, blossomed, and produced ripe grapes. He took the grapes, squeezed them into Pharaoh’s cup, and placed the cup in Pharaoh’s hand.

Joseph interpreted the dream with God-given insight:

The three branches represented three days. Within three days, the butler would be restored to his position before Pharaoh.

And everything happened exactly as Joseph said.

Before the butler left the prison, Joseph made a simple request:

“Remember me when it is well with you…” (Genesis 40:14)

But the butler forgot.

A Forgotten Promise That Still Served God’s Plan

Joseph stayed in prison two more years. Two years of silence. Two years of being overlooked. Two years of wondering.

But being forgotten by man is not the same as being forgotten by God.

When the time was right, Pharaoh had a troubling dream no one could interpret. And at that exact moment, the butler suddenly remembered Joseph. Not by coincidence, but by divine orchestration.

Joseph was brought before Pharaoh, and God used his gift again—this time to reveal the meaning of Pharaoh’s dream and to position Joseph for the next stage of his purpose.

Joseph’s elevation came from God, and God used a person to open the door. The butler was part of Joseph’s story all along.

Key Lessons

1. God Uses People as Part of His Plan

Elevation comes from the Lord, but He often works through human connections. Someone God appoints may carry your name into the right room.

2. Your Gift Works Everywhere

Joseph’s gift made room for him in the prison before it made room for him in the palace. Faithfulness in small, hidden places prepares you for larger assignments.

3. Delays Are Not Denials

The butler forgot Joseph, but God didn’t. When the time is right, God knows how to bring your name back up.

4. Character Sustains Promotion

Joseph’s integrity, humility, and steady heart made him trustworthy for leadership.

Life Application

If you feel overlooked, unseen, or forgotten—remember Joseph.

God is working behind the scenes.

Divine relationships, timing, and purpose are aligning for your elevation.

• Stay Faithful: Serve where you are.

• Use Your Gifts: Keep showing up with excellence.

• Trust His Timing: What feels delayed is developing you.

• Keep a Kind Heart: You never know which connections will matter later.

Your elevation is tied to obedience, timing, and God-appointed people. Nothing is wasted—not even the prison seasons.

A Prayer for You

Heavenly Father, thank You for the divine connections You place in my life. Help me to remain faithful, humble, and ready for the opportunities You are preparing. Remind me that You can use anyone, anywhere, to move me into the next stage of my purpose.

In Jesus’ name, amen.
